Navdanya: In conversation with Dr Vandana Shiva
The Food, Health and Climate crises are inseparable. However, whilst the challenges we face are interconnected, the solutions are too! From opposite ends of our world we brought together co-founder Cara Delevingne and author and ecofeminist Dr Vandana Shiva to find out: who really feeds the world.
he Food, Health and Climate crises are inseparable. The high cost of healthy diets coupled with persistent high levels of income inequality have placed healthy diets out of reach for around 3 billion people (FAO 2021). Meanwhile, the climate impacts of both food waste and food production are monumental, and as our climate changes, we must find sustainable and just ways to feed the planet that do not rely on industrial agriculture and genetic modification.
The good news is that whilst the challenges we face are interconnected, the solutions are too. These crises are driven by systems that were made by humans and that can be changed by humans.
In July 2020, EcoResolution co-founder Cara Delevingne met the author, activist and ecofeminist Dr Vandana Shiva to learn how we can support and participate in the movement towards a just and sustainable world that prioritises the health of communities and ecosystems.
In this interview Cara and Vandana discuss the challenges of industrial agriculture, genetic modification, corporate globalisation and the monoculture of minds. We then explore solutions, celebrating diversity and the power of communities to come together to create regenerative alternatives that nourish people and the planet.
