An Evolution of EcoResolution
We’ve been composting. We’ve been growing. We are emerging…
Since 2019, thousands of you have engaged with EcoResolution and shared your desire to build healthier, ecologically thriving communities. We have seen the incredible commitments people around the world have made through their EcoResolutions, and have been overwhelmed by the engagement with our campaigns, online education, and events.
However, we have also been struck by how many people have reached out to us asking what action they can do now to start building the planet we want to live in. Whilst we have found new ways to learn, protest and dismantle systems of injustice, many are left wondering how we can actively protect and build positive alternatives for thriving cultures.
The EcoResolution campaign taught us a lot. And like all great learning, it led us to asking a lot of big questions:
We might know what meaningful action looks like, but do we possess the skills and networks to have the impact we want?
How do we bridge the gap between engagement in climate and social justice and impactful action?
How do we make action, and wellbeing, accessible?
The answer has to be out there. And it is…
We Are Earthed
This Spring will see the launch of Earthed, a new online platform bringing ecosystem restoration (a.k.a nature skills) to the mainstream through on-demand courses and community support, enabling anyone anywhere to be part of the movement for healthier environments and happier lives.
With on-demand courses including No Dig Growing, Urban Gardening, Biodiversity Building, Restoring Rivers and Building Earthships, members of the Earthed community are invited to reconnect with nature, learn new skills, improve their mental and physical health, and start learning to grow.
Led by experienced practitioners and world renowned planetary protectors, each Earthed Teacher will be sharing the knowledge to enable anyone to learn key nature skills.
Alongside hundreds of courses, Earthed members will have access to a lively community area through which they can connect, share and learn from other members and teachers. As well as learning invaluable nature skills, Earthed members will be supporting ongoing ecosystem restoration projects, regenerative agriculture, and inspiring community initiatives taking place across the world.
What are Nature Skills?
From growing tomatoes in your windowsill to large scale tree planting, riverbed restoration to rainwater harvesting, from beekeeping to biodynamic farming, from starting a farmers’ market to learning more about localisation -- nature skills are at the core of each Earthed course. Nature skills are the practices, knowledge, processes and skills which benefit the planet, bringing more life and health to everyone and everything on it. When you learn about nature’s systems and act to help them thrive, you’re putting your nature skills into practice.
Why Ecosystem Restoration?
Through mainstream press, social media, and personal experiences, many of us are aware of ongoing ecological problems: whether that be plastic waste, pollution in our waterways, climate change, wildlife decline, a disconnect from food, or the diminishing of green spaces in many neighbourhoods and cities. Beyond tactics of blaming, shaming, green consumerism, or political postulating, ecosystem restoration is an impactful action that can not only prevent further destruction, but start actively regenerating the life of nature and communities around us. Ecosystem restoration is the process of assisting the recovery of a habitat that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed by human activity.
The United Nations reports that 1 billion hectares of land must be restored in the next 8 years. The only way to achieve this is to enable local people everywhere to take action: to start actively restoring ecosystems and engaging with regenerative growing. Aligned with the UNEP’s Decade for Ecosystem Restoration, Earthed is breaking down the barriers and removing the obstacles preventing action at scale by providing the skills, funds, and networks to enable a peer-driven, mass mobilised regeneration movement.
How to be involved?
Whether you’re a houseplant lover, part-time planter, would-be water protector, or ready to grow a full-blown food forest, Earthed is inviting everyone to become an Earthed member and start learning how to grow. Head to Earthed.Co to find out more.
In the words of Earthed co-founder, Cara Delevingne:
“We believe humans and nature can coexist in harmony because humans are nature – a crucial face we seem to have forgotten. We can all play a part and through Earthed, we hope to support millions of people getting their hands into the earth, regenerating local ecosystems and building community resilience.”
